George Richard Burns, age 87, of Rivesville, near Hagans community, passed away Thursday afternoon February 8, 2018 at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family at his side, and just 19 days after his wife, Lorena.

George was born May 6, 1930 in Morgantown, a son of the late James Albert Burns and the late Emma Hilpert Burns . 

Survivors include his five children, George Lee Hall of York, PA , and Terry Burns and wife Darlene, Ron Burns and wife Debra, Greg Burns and wife Darlene, and Sharon Burns and companion Jamie Barnett all of the Morgantown area; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Mae Hall Burns on January 20, 2018, a son, Tom Burns, and a daughter-in-law, Rose Ann Hall.

George was previously employed by the City of Westover. He was a United States Army Veteran who love animals, enjoyed being outdoors, and playing guitar.

The Burns family’s request for cremation has been honored. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be held at a later date at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
