Antoinette “Jeanette” Marra, age 93, of Star City, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, January 13, 2019. She was born June 14, 1925 in Osage to the late John and Antoinette (Barberio) Scotchell.

Jeanette grew up and remained in Star City throughout her adult life. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City and a tireless volunteer there, and the Star City Fire Department. Jeanette was truly humbled upon receiving the WV Jacqueline Kennedy Jefferson Award for volunteerism in 2016.

In addition, Jeanette served as an election poll worker for over 50 years in Star City. She was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan, and well known for her Italian cooking – especially her meatballs.

Jeanette is survived and will be deeply missed by her two sons, Frank Marra of Morgantown, and Joseph Marra and his wife Carol of Newark, DE; five grandchildren, Craig Marra, Francie Dobosh, Joseph Marra, Caron Radecki and Michael Marra; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Joseph Marra (1918-1998); and her six siblings, Russell Scotchell, Joe Scotchell, Frank Scotchell, Tony Scarcelli, Lou Scotchell and Mary Barill.

Friends may join the family to honor Jeanette’s life and legacy at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334 University Ave. in Star City, where she will lay in repose from 4-8 PM Thursday, January 17th, and again on Friday, January 18th from 10 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest with her husband at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeanette’s memory may be made to the Funeral Luncheon Fund at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334 University Ave., Star City, WV 26505.

Jeanette’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mapleshire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care and love provided to their Mom during her stay and final days there.
