Loretta Ann "Cricket" (Westover) Smith

October 26, 1943 ~ October 15, 2018 (age 74)

Loretta Ann “Cricket” Smith, 74, of Westover, passed away Monday afternoon, October 15, 2018 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born October 26, 1943 in Chapmanville, WV, a daughter of the late Hudson and Goldie (Vance) Ashby.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Smith; a daughter, Paula Vernon of Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Jennifer Friedlander and her husband Jason of Georgia, Amanda Vernon of Morgantown, and Kaydie Vernon of Georgia; her great-grandchildren, Alexander (9), Amber (7), Dale (5), Sylvia (4), Amilia (2) and Annabelle (1); and a very special niece, Angela Varney.

Cricket was a strong, determined, caring and independent woman who enjoyed gardening. She was generous – almost to a fault. She loved animals, especially cats, and donated regularly to the local animal shelter. She adored her family and her grandchildren and taught them to be as independent as she was.

Friends may join the family to honor Cricket’s life & legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., on Thursday, Oct. 18th from 1-3 & 6-8 PM, and again on Friday, Oct. 19th from 12 Noon until 1 PM, at which time a service celebrating her life and recalling fond memories will be held by her family. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
