Roby Darrell Young, 75, of Morgantown, passed away Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born December 31, 1943 in Strange Creek, WV a son of Marjorie Faye Teets Young who survives him in Strange Creek, and the late John Carl Young.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carol Ann Jackson Young; two daughters, Sarah Ann Wilson and husband Dan, and Rachel Elisabeth Young-Maatman and husband Ben; five grandchildren, Duncan and Brigid Wilson, and Sam, Cooper, and Violet Maatman all of Morgantown;and brothers Raben Young, Roland Young and wife Martha, and Ross Young and wife Chris.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Young.
Roby graduated from high school in Gassaway, WV and later obtained his MBA from West Virginia University. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
He was a manager at Southside Lumber Company, and for many years served as the General Manager of General Glass Home Center, gaining a reputation for his knowledge, customer service, and relationships with his customers that was impeccable.
Roby was a member of the Morgantown North Rotary Club, and was proud of the work he was able to accomplish with them. He was honored to be a Paul Harris Fellow, and was a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church.
Friends may join the family to honor Roby's life & legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown on Wednesday, June 19th from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday, June 20th from 10 Am until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM offiiciated by Pastor Michael Estep. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, where Full Military Honors will be accorded.
