About Us

Our funeral home has a history that dates back over 100 years to the early 1900's, when H.A. Davidson Funeral Home operated on University Avenue in the downtown area of Morgantown. Davidson's ran a their funeral home and ambulance service until the mid 1960's, with a great reputation for impeccable service.

In the late 1950's, Vincent Mancinelli and his wife Agnes began to operate a funeral home on the corner of Spruce and Pleasant Streets and remained there until 1964, when they  purchased the Davidson Funeral Home, thus forming the Davidson-Mancinelli Funeral Home which operated from the University Avenue location until the mid 1970's. Vincent and Agnes then decided to relocate their business just across the river to 108 Holland Avenue, where they operated until their retirement in 2004. the Mancinelli's made the decision to sell their business to James G. Lobb and A. Craig Rotruck, who operated the Rotruck-Lobb Mancinelli Chapel from the same location until July of 2015.

On July 1, 2015, Jason Smith, a licensed funeral director with over 20 years of experience, and his wife, Cathy Baker Smith, began Smith Funeral and Cremation Care, fulfilling Jason's lifelong dream of owning a funeral home.

Jason and Cathy's approach to funeral service might be a little different that what you would expect. Our building immediately gives you the sense of a home-like feel. Here, you'll not find the "same old, same old" - rather a place of comfort and solace where everyone is welcome by our family and staff with open arms. What we hear more than anything is, "this doesn't feel like a funeral home at all!" You're a guest in our home, and you are treated as such.

Our funeral home has undergone extensive renovations, including a brand new look to the exterior of the building, re-design of our grounds' landscaping, all new interior furniture and lighting, the addition of a children's playroom, re-design of our family lounge, a brand-new state of the art sound system, and multi-media capabilities.

Jason, his wife Cathy and their entire care team look forward to continuing friendships already made, and to the new ones that have yet to begin, by serving every walk of life from the surrounding communities in their times of need.

Those families from either Davidson-Mancinelli or Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Homes who have pre-planned their funeral here before Jason and Cathy assumed the operation will be pleased to know that their pre-arranged and pre-funded funerals are still here, and will be honored as originally written.
